Computers SUCK! Now, Let Me Tell You How I Really Feel…
Well, I finally did it, I bought a new computer for the office… a beaut-i-ful machine!
It is my first Gateway - and for the price point, it is GREAT! I bought it from Fry’s Electronics, it is model number GT5468, the specs:
- Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor (E2160) - 1.8Ghz, 1MB shared L2 cache, 800Mhz FSB (Front Side Bus)
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - not blazing graphics, but they get the job done
- 2 Gig Dual Channel DDR2
- 400 GB SATA II Hard Drive with 8MB cache
- All the other “bells & whistles” which come with machines these days
- Memory Card Readers (15 in 1)
- 10/100 Ethernet card (down on the Motherboard)
- DVD +/- RW Dual Layer
The killer thing is, that this all came at a $599 price point, with none of those crappy rebate offers, where you have to wait for your money for 6 months!
I am happy with the purchase, but I have to be honest, setting this thing up is a real chore! Let me tell you, when you move machines, it is NOT an easy thing. I think I have something like 20 hours into this one so far, with at least another 8 to 10 to go before it is up to speed with my most recent machine.
At any rate, wish me luck, and I’ll catch ya on the flip side ![]()

Congrats on the new purchase! You got a great deal! I’ve never had a Gateway before… I’m a Dell loyalist. *=)

Thanks Terra - I have been purchasing Dell exclusively for the past 10 years, but, now as a business owner, I have no brand loyalty, I just want the cheapest machine which will do what we need it to without causing us too much pain and suffering…

I have a friend that recently purchased a Gateway and I think it is the same as yours (I don’t remember the model name he said but the specs look the same). He said it is very fast and is running great, so hopefully it is the same story with you. I personally like hps and sonys the best at the moment (and am against dell, sorry 1st to commentors), but from what I’ve heard gateways aren’t bad either.

Hello! I just discover your site and i add it to my faves. I think you make a good purchase. I had to change my motherboard, graphic card and memory 2 days ago. This three cost me 400 euros. Regards
Ciao
